PersonalSign is used to sign emails and Microsoft Office documents. The certificates allow you to encrypt confidential emails. You can also use them for 2-factor authentication, i.e. to give users more secure access to your digital platform, cloud solution, etc.

DIGITAL SIGNING OF EMAILS
You can sign your emails via PersonalSign.
Depending on the strength of the certificate, you will, to a varying extent, assure recipients of your identity as the sender.
If, for example, a third party forwards your signed email, the recipient will no longer be able to see your signature. With these certificates, it becomes more or less impossible for you to deny that you have sent the email in question. The recipient will not be fooled in respect of your identity as the sender.
In technical terms, it is said that the email signature ensures authentication by the sender and the sender’s non-repudiation.
In addition, depending on the certificate, you will be able to sign emails on behalf of yourself, as an individual or as an employee. You will also be able to sign on behalf of your department or entire company.
With a digital email signature, you will, as a bank, online store or public institution, give recipients far greater freedom of action. When your users can be sure it is you and not an attacker who asks them to take action, individual users will be able to comply with your request without hesitation.
DIGITAL SIGNATURE OF OFFICE DOCUMENTS
PersonalSign can be used to sign Microsoft Office documents. This guarantees that, for example, the content of a contract that has been written as a Word document, has not been altered since you signed it.
In the event that a third party makes changes to a signed Office document, it will no longer appear as being signed. As the signatory, you will be notified of any changes as soon as they are made in the document.
In other words, a PersonalSign certificate guarantees the integrity of the data in your Office files.
You save time digitising and cutting and pasting physically signed documents. In particular, you increase the certainty that the document is authentic and exactly the same as when it was signed.
You can also use a PersonalSign certificate to encrypt your emails.
This means that only you and the recipient have access to the content of the e-mail. No third party will be able to view your digital correspondence. A third party will only be able to have access if the intended recipient forwards the email in decrypted form.
By using the certificate in this way, you guarantee the confidentiality of your emails.
TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION PROVIDES ACCESS TO DIGITAL PLATFORM
IT platforms and cloud-based services use PersonalSign certificates for two-factor authentication, i.e. to identify a recipient and provide access to various items of data and levels of service.
Imagine this scenario: Access to your company’s intranet is split into 10 levels and that your employees are to have access to levels 1-7 in order to be able to carry out their duties.
You will be able to grant access rights to intermediaries by installing a PersonalSign certificate on the computers they use when the access the system.
With PersonalSign, your intermediaries will only have access to the levels you deem necessary. This enables you to guarantee both the confidentiality of data and its integrity.
If you are one of the companies that are subject to inspection by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), is PersonalSign an appropriate tool to use?
The FDA requires you to use a digital certificate when submitting your documentation through the organisation's Electronic Submissions Gateway (ESG). The digital certificate is used partly to identify the sender of the documentation for security purposes, but also to encrypt the document and ensure its confidentiality and integrity during the transfer.
As a minimum, the FDA ESG requires the certificate to be personally identifiable. TRUSTZONE already offers this in the form of our entry-level PersonalSign certificate - PersonalSign Express.
We also offer PersonalSign Business, which has a higher level of security. The Business certificate binds the information classes ‘name of individual’ and ‘name of business’ together with the class ‘email’.
In order to meet the needs of a broad group of customers, we have three different types of PersonalSign certificate.
PersonalSign Express involves validating your email address via a confirmation email.
PersonalSign Business is an organisation-validated certificate. It is issued by validating your identity as a person, your email address and the company you represent.
PersonalSign Department is issued after validating an email address used on behalf of a department in a company, e.g. for email correspondence with customers, users and other stakeholders.
